Classifying Pulse Compression Radar Waveforms Using Time-Frequency Distributions

چکیده
In this paper the classification of pulse compression radar waveforms using features extracted from the Choi-Williams time-frequency distribution is studied. In addition, a feature based on the symmetry properties of polyphase waveforms is introduced. The pulse compression waveforms examined are the Frank, P1, P2, P3, and P4 codes. The discrimination capability of the features is evaluated using an ensemble averaging early-stop committee of 10 multilayer perceptrons. The classifier achieves over 96 % overall correct classification rate in signal-to-noise ratio of 3 dB on data similar to the training data.

Extending the Radar Dynamic Range using Adaptive Pulse Compression
The matched filter in the radar receiver is only adapted to the transmitted signal version and its output will be wasted due to non-matching with the received signal from the environment. The sidelobes amplitude of the matched filter output in pulse compression radars are dependent on the transmitted coded waveforms that extended as much as the length of the code on both sides of the target loc...
متن کاملDoppler Tolerant Convolutional Windows for Radar Pulse Compression
Pulse compression technique is used to enhance radar performance in terms of more efficient use of high power transmitters and increasing the system resolving capability. The polyphase pulse compression codes (P3 and P4) which are derived from linear frequency modulated waveforms have low sidelobes and are Doppler tolerant. To reduce the sidelobes further different types of windows have been us...

Short-wavelength radar networks are expected to complement current long-range weather radar systems. Accordingly, we proposed a configuration for such a network constituting pulse compression radars in order to use frequency resources efficiently and obtain multi-static information. We developed high resolution Ka-band pulse compression weather radar system as a test-bed. Using a commercial dir...
متن کاملChirp Signals and Noisy Waveforms for Solid-State Surveillance Radars
Since the advent of “pulse compression” radar, the “chirp” signal (Linear Frequency Modulation, LFM) has been one of the most widely used radar waveforms. It is well known that, by changing its modulation into a Non-Linear Frequency Modulation (NLFM), better performance in terms of Peak-to-Sidelobes Ratio (PSLR) can be achieved to mitigate the masking effect of nearby targets and to increase th...
متن کاملAssessment of Weighting Functions Used in Oppermann Codes in Polyphase Pulse Compression Radars
Polyphase is a common class of pulse compression waveforms in the radar systems. Oppermann code is one of the used codes with polyphone pattern. After compression, this code has little tolerant against Doppler shift in addition to its high side lobe level. This indicates that the use of Oppermann code is an unsuitable scheme to radars applications. This paper shows that the use of amplitude wei...
